SIBA, SWIBA, Sports Council, National Coach		 To establish, finance and strive to improve Bowls Coaching throughout Scotland. To monitor plans for achievement, to communicate with Governing Bodies, to assist Coaching Scheme when necessary.
     
Director of Coaching
(National Coach)		 To develop Coaching policies and initiate the practical application of these through Regional Supervisors of Coaching, Regional and Area Coaches. To implement agreed procedures, to monitor and advise Regional Supervisors on all aspects of training of Coaches. To report quarterly to the Committee on current situations. To develop further improvements to Coaching methods.
     
Regional Supervisor of Coaching To liaise with the Director of Coaching in the development of policies to improve Coaching. Assist the Director of Coaching, in all ways possible to achieve the targets laid down by the Committee. To maintain and improve the standards of training and assessment of all grades of Coaches.
     
Regional Coach To liaise with Regional Supervisor and Area Coaches to ensure that all Clubs within their Region have the opportunity to develop Bowls coaching. To ensure that methods and targets are being achieved and that Area Coaches have every opportunity to use the system. To update the Regional Supervisor at regular, agreed intervals.
     
Area Coach To liaise between the Regional and Club Coaches in the communication of coaching developments to Club Coaches. To ensure, within their Area, that all Club Coaches are aware of every opportunity to use the system. To update their Regional Coach at regular, agreed intervals.
     
Advanced Club Coach   To assist established players and newcomers to the game to improve their skills when invited to do so.
     
Club Coach   To introduce newcomers to the game to the basic skills, rules and etiquette of the sport.

 

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Coaching system?
  It is a scheme set up by the SBA, SIBA, SWBA and SWIBA to make bowls coaching available to ALL Clubs in Scotland.
   
What is the structure?
 

Two representatives from each of the above associations form the Scottish Bowls Coaching Committee. The SBCC is responsible for the administration of the scheme and representatives report back to the Associations after each meeting. The National Director of Coaching (appointed by the SBCC) attends those meetings and gives reports on the current coaching status, strategies, planning and future commitments.

Under the charge of the National Director are:-

Regional Supervisors of Coaching (8 in number):- They are responsible for the administration of several SBA Districts in Scotland called Regions, based on specific geographical locations.

Regional Coaches:- They are responsible for the administration and liason with Clubs and Coaches - for specific Districts in a Region.

Area Coaches:- They are responsible for the administration and liason with a number of Coaches and Clubs within a District.

Club Coaches:- They are responsible for all coaching matters at their respective clubs.
   
What is the aim?
  To provide a standardised form of bowls coaching in Scotland based on the "Scottish Bowls Coaching Manuals".
   
Who does the Training?
  The Regional Supervisors, Regional Coaches and Area Coaches who have all undergone training and are qualified to give instruction and training to potential coaches.
   
What does it cost?
  Club Coach - currently £50.00
Non Association Coach - currently £90.00 - available to Local authority applicants and non-association clubs.
Advanced Coach - currently £35.00 - available to coaches who have undergone basic training, and who have coaching experience and are currently active in coaching.
   
How long does a training course take?
  For a Club Coach or Non Association Coach - normally 12 to 16 hours in 2 hour sessions, before assessment - ALL dependent on the potential coach's application to the course.
Advanced Coaching courses are of a self-study nature by the applicant who is provided with the "Advanced Coaching Manual" and a video on "Causes" and "Remedies" along with other literature containing "Trial Questions and Answers", also information about "Body Mechanics", etc. The applicant sets the time scale for assessment.

ALL must be endorsed by the applicants Club Secretary relative authorisation and permission, and thereafter forward the completed form (with a cheque for the appropriate amount) to the National Director of Coaching who will direct it to the respective Regional Supervisor of Coaching for acknowledgment and processing.
