REGULATIONS FOR 2008 COMPETITION

1 The first Stage of the Competition will be played on the League principle, each side having six teams of   four.

2. Games will be 21 ends. Two points will be awarded to the winning side and in a drawn match, one point will be awarded to each side. .

3. The qualifiers from each Section will be the Association teams which has gained the highest number of points and aggregate shots.

4. Should two or more Associations finish with equal points and equal in aggregate shots up, the winner will be the Association which won the league game between these two.In the event of a further tie, the winner will be decided on the following basis:-

1. The number of winning fours. 2.The number of ends won.

5. If a game is delayed by one hour then the game will not take place. A new date should be agreed by mutual consent at a meeting called by the S.B.A.'s Councilor(s) on duty. The following officials only should be in attendance - the President and Secretary of each Association, or their representatives, and the umpires. If amicable agreement cannot be reached by the Associations the S.B.A. Councilor(s) in attendance will fix a date, time and venue. The game must take place within the following eight days.

6. If a game is stopped, either by mutual agreement or by the official Umpires and cannot be resumed within half an hour, it shall be resumed with the scores as they were when the game was stopped. If eleven or more ends have been played by the competing sides, the results of the game will be decided on the scores, as at the eleventh or subsequent end, all fours to complete the same number of ends. If two or more players are not available from the same rink in a resumed game, substitutes will be allowed.

7. In deciding the results of a match in which a player(s) may fail to appear, Law 59(b) whichever is applicable, will be used in calculating the aggregate score of a defaulting side.

8. Coloured discs (100 blue/red stickers ) will be issued toany Association that requires them and these should be retained for the full series of League Games.Sponsors discs are permitted (Opponents should be advised when these are to be used)

9. Team sheets and cards should be forwarded immediately after conclusion by a representative of the Scottish Bowling Association to the Secretary of the SBA.

10. (a) Clubs who are members of more than one Association, must nominate which Association they wish their players to represent, in the event of selection. Such nomination shall be binding for a minimum period of five years. (b) A County entering two teams must continue on this basis for a minimum of five years.

11. In the league games each Association will be liable for any catering expenses for its players and officials. It is recommended that, wherever possible, tea should be at the end of the game.

12. Associations which have more than one team in the Competition must not transfer players between teams. Players of the same Club may play for different teams within the same Association. The team first played for commits the player for the remainder of the season. Any Association breaking this rule will be severely dealt with, either by fine or suspension. Any points gained will be deducted. Players must only be selected from Clubs in full membership of the Association.

13. For the Quarter Finals , Semi-finals and Final, the Scottish Bowling Association will provide high tea for competing teams and 14 officials from the respective Associations.

14. RULES FOR EXTRA END (a) Team captains or nominees must toss for team to determine who shall play first, before commencement of extra end. (b) All fours must commence play simultaneously.

15. Persistent and flagrant time wasting will be severely dealt with by the S.B.A.

17. Greens used for Andrew Hamilton Trophy games are limited to a maximum of twice per season.

DRAW FOR RINKS
The following officials should be in attendance at the Draw: .

The Home County/City Secretary conducts the draw;

(a) The draw will be attended by two officials only from each County/City.
(b) Two S.B.A. Councilor's (Selector and Observer).
(c) One Umpire may be in attendance to observe the draw being made

SETTING OF RINKS
Rink settings must be within the measurements prescribed in the Law of the Game, but need not be exactly the same for each rink. The minimum width of a rink to be not less than 4.6 metres nor more than 5.8 metres wide. The minimum length of a green in the direction of play shall be not less than 34 metres.

NOTES:
DRESS Dress for all games is white trousers, white belt (if worn), collared white shirt, coloured shirts are allowed as long as they have been registered with the SBA, white cardigan or pullover, white headgear, (if worn), blazer and white waterproofs.Coloured wet weather gear will be permitted as long as the whole team is similarly dressed ad they have registered the colour with the SBA.Small Manufacturers' Logos, Club Badges and Names of a reasonable size are acceptable. Logos on shirts should be on the sleeve and measure no more than 75 x 50 mm (3 x 2").

FOOTWEAR
White socks, white shoes.

STAMPING OF BOWLS: As long as the bowls have a legible date stamp regardless of type and date they will be allowed , however wooden bowls must be stamped 2008 onwards.
